John Dalzell, AIA, LEED Fellow, is Senior Architect for Sustainable Development at the Boston Planning Department (formally the BPDA) where he leads and contributes to sustainable development, green building, and climate resiliency policies, programs, and practices including the Mass Timber Accelerator, Zero Net Carbon Building Zoning Initiative, Article 37 Green Building Zoning, E+ Green Building Program, and numerous strategic area planning initiatives. In 2022, Mr. Dalzell led the launch of the first Mass Timber Accelerator Program which is now a national model with programs running in multiple major cities and more in the works. Today, Boston is home to four mass timber projects totaling over 260k SF and seven more projects in planning.
