Hercend is a Principal at Timber Engineering Inc. He held a Post-Doc position at UNBC after completing his Ph.D. in Timber Engineering at UBC. He worked on advanced analytical analyses, computer modelling and programming for structural designs against disproportionate collapse. After his studies, he joined Katerra where he worked on the development of novel building components and structural systems for mid-rise and tall mass timber buildings, as well as large mass timber warehouses. Hercend led the design of numerous large mass timber industrial, commercial, institutional, office, and residential projects in both Canada and US.

Hercend is an expert in timber engineering and connection detailing for mass timber buildings, including the performance under seismic loads and disproportionate collapse prevention designs. He is a licensed professional engineer in both Canada and US. Hercend has numerous publications in international and ISI-listed journals, book chapters, and structural reports on novel structural design and detailing for mass timber under abnormal and extreme loadings.
